The following group of Australian PE Teacher trainees from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology came to Christ Church Secondary School for their teaching practice assignment from 14 Jan to 14 Feb 2010.

JANELLE LUCAS
Nick Names: JAY, NELL OR NELLIE
I am: 21 years old
I live in: Donvale, Melbourne Victoria (Australia)
In my family: Mum, Dad, older sister Kerrie-Anne and older brother Cameron
(Yes I am the youngest)
My pets include: I have no pets at the moment but I used to have two fish called Dodgem and Car.
The school I go to is: RMIT University, Melbourne. I am studying to become a Physical Education teacher in Government or Private Schools.
The sports I enjoy include: Basketball, Netball, Athletics and Swimming. I love all sports. Love to try new things and take on a challenge.
What I want to achieve in Singapore, at Christ Church Secondary School: I would love to gain an understanding of the culture in Singapore compared to Australia as there is so much to learn and experience. I want to get as involved in the school as I can, meet new people and learn something from all of the teachers at CHR, as I feel it will help me understand the school community and its differences compared to Australia. Improving my teaching skills to be a more effective and efficient Physical Education teacher is also one of my main goals to gain from this experience.

In my family: I have my Mum, Dad, older sister Charlene and my little sister Allison.
My pets include: My dog Milo, my cat Toby Bear and my bird Georgie.
The school I go to is: RMIT University in Melbourne, Victoria (Australia). The degree I am studying is called a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physical Education) which will qualify me to become a Physical Education Teacher.
The sports I enjoy include:
Running in Track & Field and Cross Country, Soccer and I also enjoy playing, watching & teaching a variety of other sports.
What I want to achieve in Singapore, at Christ Church Secondary School: Firstly I want to be able to improve both my personal and teaching skills by adapting to the different culture that Christ Church offers. I also want to be able to try and experience new things and different fun activities here in my classes so that I am able to take them back home to my classes in Australia. Lastly I would love to get to know?as many of the teachers and students at Christ Church as possible as I feel that this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I want to make every moment worth it!!

In my family: I have my Mum, Dad, one brother (Tim) and one sister (Carlee)
My pets include: My sister owns lots of horses and a dog called 'Pup'.
The school I go to is: RMIT University in Melbourne, Victoria (Australia). My degree is called Bachelor of Applied Science, Physical Education. I am going to be a P.E. teacher.
The sports I enjoy include: Netball and Basketball mainly, but I enjoy watching and playing all sports!
What I want to achieve in Singapore, at Christ Church Secondary School:
I aim to explore the different culture at Christ Church Secondary and be able to compare education in Singapore to Australian schools. I also want to focus on improving and developing my teaching skills with Singapore students and teachers, and be able to use those skills back in Australia. Overall I wish to better myself as a person and as a teacher, because I believe this is such a fantastic opportunity to experience (teaching in a different country). I want to make the 4 weeks at Christ Church all worth while! Last but not least I wish for students of Christ Church to enjoy our P.E. lessons!
 
MELISSA BONADDIO

I live in: Reservoir, Melbourne, Victoria (Australia)
In my family: I have my Mum, Dad, older sister Natalie and twin brother Mark
My pets include: 1 dog named Jack
The school I go to is: RMIT University in Melbourne, Victoria (Australia). The degree I am studying is called a Bachelor of Applied Science (Physical Education), which will enable me to become a Physical Education Teacher
The sports I enjoy include: Soccer, Swimming and Volleyball, although I enjoy teaching and playing a variety of others!
What I want to achieve in Singapore, at Christ Church Secondary School: First and foremost, I wish to develop my personal, social and teaching skills by embracing a different culture. I will endeavour to apply the skills and knowledge that I have learnt through my teaching in Australia, with the ability to adapt them wherever necessary to cater for any individual; class and school differences. I hope that this experience along with the skills gained, will enable me to become a more efficient and effective physical education teacher, one with a better understanding of how PE is taught outside of Australia. Upon leaving, I would like the students to have a better understanding of the value of PE.
 
STEPHANIE CLAPP

I live in: Heidelberg, Melbourne, Victoria (Australia)
In my family: I have my Mum, Dad, younger brother Tony and a half sister Tania
My pets include: A dog Missy, 4 fat gold fish and a turtle (Eastern long neck turtle)
The school I go to is: RMIT University, Melbourne. I am studying to become a Physical Education teacher in schools
The sports I enjoy include: Cheerleading, Netball, Tennis, Athletics and basically all sports!
What I want to achieve in Singapore, at Christ Church Secondary School: I want to apply all the knowledge I have gained over the last 3 years of teaching when teaching in a foreign country. I also want to give the students of CHR an insight to the way that Aussie kids are taught at school, including experiencing new activities and games!
